Andrea in Ecuador

A few updates.
The soccer game we went to was really fun. The Riobamba team got shafted due to a really really bad ref and the game ended in a tie with one of the Quito teams. The ref was suspended for the rest of the season due to his tendency to give calls toward the Quito team when they didn't deserve it. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera to this event and will have to rely on Claudine to get me some digital pics made from her print film. There were several interesting things about the atmosphere. You could buy a giant (warm) bottle of pilsner for a dollar while you watched the game, and there were several stands with food...salchipapas, giggly pork fat and some unrecognizeable delicacies. We noticed a woman walking around with little plastic bags full of a clear liquid...sort of looked like she might be selling live goldfish but with no fish in the bags. It was actually Zumir in a bag (yuk!). Before the game they sprayed these pressurized canisters of colored flour all over the crowd (blue and red for the Olmeda team colors). There were cheerleaders and two bands. Unfortunately we were on the opposite side of the field from the cheerleaders. The bathroom scene was a bit scary. No his and hers ..just a bunch of stalls, some without doors and the men don't bother closing the doors anyway so its a bit embarrasing trying to find a vacant toilet.

I have much more to tell but I am very hungry and Claudine is waiting to share our last meal in Quito together before we head out. Later, Andrea
