Andrea in Ecuador

The people of Sicalpa have done a good job of recyling materials from the colonial period when they fill in old doorways to create walls. We found a wall in our excavation, pictured with Ross standing on it just before we took a photo of this level. I've been excavating in a massive Colonial trash pit for the last couple days which is chock full of good garbage for us to analyze....animal bones, lots of ceramics, hand blown glass, bone tools that appear to be implements for weaving and a ceramic cockspur which is used to hold the plates of the ground or as spacers between plates to keep the glaze from sticking them to one another during firing. So, it's pretty interesting, maybe some sort of artisans workshop area. That's all for now this internet cafe is painfully slow. Hugs Andrea
