Andrea in Ecuador |
Here are some photos from our tour around Quito yesterday.
We went to a beautiful church called La Basilica and climbed to the top of it to see views of the city. In addition to La Basilica, we walked through some of the city parks which have craft venders. We did some window shopping and their are beautiful things to buy. We are saving our spending money for the big market on Saturday. We also walked through the old town which has many people trying to sell things on the streets. The Indigenous women offer fresh fruits (oranges and apricots), herbs (chamomile, mint and coca leaves), honey, and lima beans. They always wear traditional dress of their villages and have a single black braid down their back. After hiking up and down the church stairs yesterday, I felt the onset of many of the symptoms of high altitude sickness. My legs felt very fatigued, I was dehydrated, my hands were puffy, my head ached and so did my stomach. After losing half of my breakfast in a banyo we taxied back to the hotel and I spent most of the rest of the day in bed. Today I feel much better and am well rested so I'm looking forward to checking out some of the local museums. Best wishes to all. --Andrea
