"Rumbled wall" raised bed planter (April - June, 2005)

Buiding a planter from rumbled wall blocks behind the Decatur house.

• Removing gravel from old, ineffective French drain
• Pavestone "Rumbled Wall" blocks
• One-half cubic yard of crushed stone base in the truck bed (about 1700 lbs!)
• Half the foundation has been dug
• Foundation completely dug out
• Pumping rain water out of the foundation
• 250 more blocks delivered
• Starting to pack in road base and first course of blocks
• After about one day's work (check out the cool wheelbarrow!)
• About half of the first course of blocks in place
• The entire first course of blocks in place below grade
• The second course of blocks in place above grade
• Foundation back-filled, starting to add some drainage gravel
• Third course of blocks
• Fourth course of blocks
• Fifth and final course of blocks; a few inches of drainage gravel in bottom
• Finished, except for filling with soil and plants
